“TOP TEN” FESTIVALS & EVENTS


The Kentucky Tourism Council announces the following winners from across the state as its “Top Ten” Festivals and Events for Summer, 2007:


Great American Brass Band Festival, Danville, KY, June 7-10.  An old-time brass band concert with a New Orleans-style parade marching down Main Street, followed by music from world-renowned bands. (800)755-0076.

 

Francisco's Farm Arts Festival, Midway, KY, June 16-17. Held at Midway College, artists from fourteen states along with food and music make this event an enrichment of the social, cultural, and artistic life of the Midway community. (859) 846-4632.

 

Kentucky Jets, Lebanon, KY, July 6-8. The Lebanon-Springfield Airport hosts this popular remote control jet show with pilots coming from all over the United States as well as Canada, France and Argentina. (270) 692-0021.

 

Berea Craft Festival, Berea, KY, July 13-15. The 26th year for this event held at historic Indian Fort Theatre features regional music and more than 120 artists from across the country demonstrating their crafts. (859) 986-2540.

 

BreyerFest, Lexington, KY, July 20-22. World's largest model horse festival and horse fair with competitions, equine presentations, model horse seminars and celebrity performers. (859) 259-4224.

 

Paducah Summer Festival, Paducah, KY, July 25-28. Four days of fun and excitement for the entire family including riverfront concerts, a hot air balloon glow and a fireworks finale. (270) 443-8783.

 

Raintree County 50th Anniversary Festival, Danville, KY, July 24-August 5. Rare, behind the scenes  photos and eyewitness histories of the filing of "Raintree County" presented in multimedia formats preserved for future generations. (859) 236-2747.

 

Multi-Cultural Festival, Owensboro, KY, August 18. A unique blending of cultures that come together to educate the public through dancing, music, ethnic foods, fashions, arts and much more. (800) 489-1131.

 

American Founders Bank Woodland Art Fair, Lexington, KY, August 18-19. Over 200 exhibitors with a large selections of ceramics, sculpture, wood, jewelry, painting, metal, fiber mixed media and photography. (859) 233-1221.

 

Kenlake's Hot August Blues, Hardin, KY, August 24-25. Two days of the hottest blues music held on the shores of beautiful Kentucky Lake with bands from as far away as California along with blues artwork from around the world. (270) 474-2211.
 

 

The Kentucky Tourism Council names its "Top Ten" Festivals & Events four times a year. To be eligible festivals or events must be recommended or produced by a Kentucky Tourism Council member.  A panel of impartial judges selects the winners for each season.  Criteria for selection include popularity of the event, its impact on the local tourism economy as well as cultural and historical significance.             

The Kentucky Tourism Council is a 540-member statewide association representing all sectors of the state's travel industry.  The Council's mission is to unite Kentucky's third largest industry through governmental interaction, communication and education.
